[News] Is your v-dub prepared for winter?

You know how to protect yourself for winter weather…What about your vehicle; does it have everything it needs to battle bitter temperatures, ice and snow? Preventive maintenance is the key to keeping you and your Volkswagen warm and comfy while motoring along the road.

Knowledge is power…

Battery Facts
More than 30% of vehicles with batteries 3 years or older experience battery failure.

Cold temperatures can:

  • Reduce your battery’s engine cranking power.
  • Thicken engine oil, which makes it tougher for your engine to start.
  • Require the use of lights, defroster and wipers for long periods of time, which puts added strain on your battery.
  • Corrode battery terminals and prevent the full flow of electrical current to power your vehicle.

You can perform a self-diagnosis on your battery:

  • Has your battery outlived its warranty period?
  • Have any indicator lights come on in your vehicle?
  • Do the lights dim when the heat is on?
  • Is corrosion evident on the battery posts or cables?

If you answer "yes" to any of these questions, it may be time for a new battery.

Genuine Volkswagen Batteries vs. regular batteries

There are two major differences between Genuine Volkswagen Batteries and regular batteries. First, VW batteries provide more reserve capacity, or amp hours, to satisfy the ever-increasing electronic demands of today’s European cars. Second, VW batteries are engineered to higher safety standards than regular batteries.

Tire Facts
Correct air pressure is critical for achieving maximum tire safety and performance. When tread depth is under 4/32 of an inch you are in danger of losing control of your vehicle when on a snowy or slippery surface. Penny wise - Place a penny upside down so Lincoln is facing you - if part of his head is covered you're okay but if you can see all of the President's head it's time to replace your tires. All Volkswagen-approved tires come with 24-month Road Hazard coverage - at no extra cost.*

Wiper Facts
Worn wiper blades smear rather than clean your windshield, which directly affects your visibility. Genuine VW Wiper blades are designed to fit the curved, contoured surface of your windshield.

Bring your VW in to Boston Volkswagen for a complimentary 27-point inspection.¹ Let the motherly adage, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of protection," be your motto this winter... Oh and drive safe, and don't forget your gloves!

*Some restrictions apply. Ask your Service Consultant for a list of eligible tires and for complete Road Hazard Coverage details. ¹
